Authorities need to be pro active to prevent harassment of people from north east: Vijay Goel

To express solidarity with people of northeast and to press for immediate action against guilty who killed an Arunachal Pradesh student in the Capital, the Delhi BJP today held a dharna at the Rajghat.
Addressing the BJP workers, Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, "I have already spoken to the police commissioner and I am going to meet him on Monday to demand for immediate action on this case."

"There is an urgent need to set up helplines at district level as students from north eastern state often get harassed. The authorities need to be sensitised to react quickly to complaints and to take preventive steps to check harassment to people from north eastern states and especially students."

Shri Goel said, "A survey by North-East help Centre in Delhi shows that around 60 per cent of women from north east feel harassed.  There have been cases of harassment of students. This situation needs to be reversed immediately."

The BJP has always stood by people from north eastern states in Delhi and will continue to do so. We condemn this barbaric act and will relentlessly pursue for justice to be done in this case, said Shri Goel.

Expressing shock and grief over the killing of the young student from Arunachal Pradesh, leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said, "There is an urgent need to take steps to ensure that such incidents do not happen again. The guilty of committing this crime should be brought to the book."
