Union Minister Vijay Goel expressed joy with the decision of the Delhi Government to grant 85% reservation of seats in Delhi government colleges for city students. The decision if approved will apply on all 28 colleges under the Delhi government. Goel said that it is a personal victory for his 5 year long struggle.
Speaking on the issue Goel stated, “I had been demanding this for a very long time and had conducted several meetings, dharnas and interactions with young students over the years”. Goel had met Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia, HRD Minister and the Vice Chancellor last year with a memorandum demanding the reservation for Delhi students.
Goel further stated, “I’m happy with the decision but the implementation will take a year more. Had the Delhi government taken my decision seriously last year considering the future of our students, the system would have been in effect from the current academic year.” “I guess they assumed that Vijay Goel would get the credit and refrained from implementation last year”, Goel added.
The Delhi Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution seeking percent reservation in admission for city students in Delhi University colleges that are funded by the AAP government as all MLAs pledged to raise the issue with the Centre, LG and university administration. The resolutions, moved by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, were passed by voice vote.
